| | | | UW Students’ Trespassing Charges Dismissed | UW’s student newspaper, The Daily, is reporting that all 33 people who were charged with first-degree criminal trespassing in a May 2025 campus building occupation will have their charges dismissed under a deal with the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. [The Daily] | - The story: On May 5, 2025, students occupied the Interdisciplinary Engineering Building (IEB) and demanded that UW divest from Boeing. The company has supplied weapons to Israel in its ongoing war in Gaza, which has been called a genocide by the United Nations and other international organizations, and the IEB’s construction was partially funded by a $10 million investment from Boeing. After the IEB building occupation, 23 students received ‘emergency suspensions,’ which meant that they posed an immediate danger or threat of disruption. 21 were banned from all 3 campuses. They were later also charged by the King County Attorney’s Office.

- Reinstatement: Under what is called ‘Stipulated Order of Continuance’ with the King County Prosecuting Attorney, the trespassing charges will be dismissed in 12 months if they complete community service and commit no new violations. The UW33 are calling it a victory as they will face no jail time, trial, or owe any fees. [The Daily]
- Code of Conduct: Meanwhile, UW has been under fire for proposed changes to its code of conduct that would include students being liable for property damage they didn’t cause and for wearing a mask at protests. After pushback from the UW community, university president Robert Jones pulled the revisions from the September 9 Board of Regents meeting and is asking the Senate faculty to review and give recommendations on the proposed changes by December 10.
